Sarah Rose Campbell was Simeon Charles second wife. He met her while working in the Halton area on her father's farm. She was quite a bit younger than him and I guess she was enamoured by his wily ways. When he met her, he had a wife and four small children with another on the way. I will never know if she knew about his other family, I doubt it. He married her in October of 1990, just six months after the birth of his last child with Frances Knight-Ostrom. The registration of their marriage has several errors about Simeon, whether by accident or to cover up his real identity. His real age was actually thirty-two not twenty-three, his name was Ostrom not Astrom, he came from the Rice Lake area, not Rosemont and his parents were Gideon Ostrom and Emma Turner.
004778-90 (Halton) Simon Charles ASTROM sp., 23, farmer, Rosemont, Ballinafad, s/o Gideon & Emma TURNER, married Sarah CAMPBELL, 21, Hillsburg,Ballinafad, d/o James & Annie Mariah CAMPBELL, win; Mrs. GIFFORD and Shirley GIFFORD both of Acton, 29 Oct 1890 at Acton Methodis Church by Rev G.A. GIFFORD.
He and Sarah lived with her widowed mother when their first child Nell Ostrum- Pletsch (1891 - 1926) was born in April of 1891. At this point Sarah and Charlie moved out west to what would eventually become Calgary, to homestead. In 1894, Sarah gave birth to a second child Fred (1894 - 1981). Next came Annie Ostrum-Fleming (1895 - 1989), then Bess Ostrom-Scott (1897 - 1983), Edward (1901 -1901), and Marjorie Ostrom-Barkley (1906 - 1981). More can be found about the family at Chaps and Chinooks” A History of West Calgary. Sarah died March 8th, 1920 at the Calgary General Hospital, aged 52 after contracting pneumonia.
