This is the muster roll for Jacob Swackhammer found in the National Archives of Canada site under Militia and Defence. The military record is from the role of the 1812 War, when Jacob fought under the command of Lieut-Colonel Robert Nelles. He is the 15th name on the list. Notice there is a side for “Remarks” in which one man is noted, as died in action — another as a deserter to the enemy. I have related many of these men as originally from the USA, which could cause loyalties to be discarded or emerge. It is quite something to see that these records have survived for over 200 years. |
